David Perry
President and Founder
Shiny Entertainment
Newport Beach, Calif.

David Perry, the President and founder of Shiny Entertainment, has been a gaming industry visionary for the past 20 years. With David at the helm, Shiny has earned both critical and commercial success, forging a reputation as a forward-looking, innovative force that's constantly pushing the boundaries of the gaming world.

Founded in 1993 by David Perry, Shiny's latest project is Enter The Matrix™, based on the sequel to the blockbuster action thriller The Matrix™ from Warner Bros and directors Larry and Andy Wachowski. Enter The Matrix was released on May 15, 2003 for all video game platforms - GameCube, PC, PS2 and Xbox.

Perry launched his career at just 15 years of age, when he started writing computer game programming books in his native Northern Ireland. Since then, David has developed 36 games (serving as lead programmer on 24 of them), totaling 84 individual retail titles across 23 video game platforms. All told, Perry's games have totaled more than $500 million in sales.

"I started writing books on games before games could be bought," Perry said. "In those days, you had to actually type the entire game in from a book - without mistakes. Hours later, you finally got to play. Or start looking for your mistakes. This looking at program code and fixing mistakes was a great way to gently learn programming."

At age 17, David moved to London, where he developed professional games for key publishers such as Mikro-Gen, Elite Systems, Probe Software, US-Gold, Mirrorsoft & Virgin Games. After developing hits such as The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Terminator for Orion Pictures, he moved to the United States and Virgin Games in 1991. At Virgin, Perry led the development teams for several award-winning games, such as Disney's Aladdin, 7-UP's Cool Spot and McDonald's Global Gladiators, which won a slew of industry awards and gave Perry credibility in the U.S. interactive entertainment industry.

In October 1993, David struck out on his own, forming Shiny Entertainment and beginning work on Shiny's first blockbuster title, Earthworm Jim™.

"I remember we were just this little company that wanted to make games for Sega," Perry said. "We had this meeting with them, and I got up, put the cartridge in the machine and showed them what we had. They were totally amazed by Earthworm Jim. Within minutes, we had a deal, the cover of Sega's own magazine and the respect of the biggest games company in the world."

The Earthworm Jim series of games racked up millions of unit sales worldwide across the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo and PC platforms, and spawned successful sequels and several lucrative licensing deals. With action figures, comic books and a syndicated television cartoon series on the Universal Cartoon Studios/Warner Kids Network, Earthworm Jim became one of the best-known video game characters of all time.

Shiny followed that success with several award-winning PC and video game titles - MDK™ (1996), Wild9™ (1998), R/C Stunt Copter™ (1999), Messiah™ (2000) and Sacrifice™ (2000), the latter collecting more than 40 awards for Best Strategy Game.

In April 2002, Shiny became a wholly owned subsidiary of Atari, Inc. (NASD: ATAR) in a $47 million deal, giving Shiny direct access to heavyweight worldwide marketing & distribution muscle, and signing Perry to a long term contract as President.

"Atari has a legacy of attracting the best development teams in the business. They share our vision of the future and they've built a reputation for being extremely supportive of creative talent," Perry said. "We are thrilled to be a part of the Atari family."

Perry continues to seek new opportunities in game development, with Enter The Matrix being the latest example. The game is the result of a unique partnership between Shiny Entertainment and the Hollywood production muscle of Warner Bros and Silver Pictures. More than any other previous game/movie partnership, Enter The Matrix represents a true collaboration between filmmakers and a game development studio.

And with both proven game development experience and the key relationships to make it all happen, Shiny Entertainment is uniquely positioned as Hollywood's first and best choice for game development partnerships.

Just as he pushes Shiny on a day-to-day basis, David is committed to driving the gaming industry itself to new heights. Perry sits on the advisory board of the Game Developers Conference, and is a regular speaker at conferences like (Game Developers Conference, Electronic Entertainment Expo, the Consumer Electronics Show, Comdex, SigGraph, Milia), industry award shows (Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, BAFTA, Spotlight Awards), colleges (UCLA, M.I.T., American Museum of the Moving Image) and industry research organizations (Beaver Creek Gathering, Banff Summit).
